US President Trump has suspended some of his tariffs for 90 days. Will he still stick to his course of imposing high duties on importers? SAP boss Klein reports on contacts with Trump.
SAP CEO Christian Klein has spoken positively about meetings with US President Donald Trump. As a member of a group of company bosses, he experienced Trump in a confidential setting, said the head of the German software company in the magazine “Der Spiegel”. “It was a constructive exchange. And it is definitely the case that he listens and gives feedback,” Klein reported.
There is “a round table of selected, mainly American CEOs. I’m taking part because SAP plays a critical role for the economy and public administration in the USA. There is a close exchange that I would also like to see more intensive in Europe.”
The trade conflict with the rest of the world instigated by Trump nevertheless worries the SAP CEO. “We can see how our customers are struggling with it and the uncertainty is great,” said Klein. His company, on the other hand, is benefiting from the situation in that SAP software is helping corporate customers to “manage customs costs, make supply chains more resilient, in logistics, in procurement. That’s where we are in demand.” However, he hopes for fewer customs duties for everyone.
